a beautiful shame

"Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armor yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you."

(G.R.R. Martin: A Game of Thrones)

Tyrion to Jon Snow methinks. How far with GRRM are you?
And just to be the devil's advocate - sometimes if the armour is tempered too much it is as brittle in its bitterness as the weakest spot with no armour after all.

It is indeed Tyrion. I'm barely halfway through the first book but I'm enchanted.

Regarding the armour - strength without bitterness is the answer, in my opinion... Easier said than done, certainly, but I think the secret lies in accepting yourself fully with strength AND weaknesses, forgiving others when necessary and not blaming them for whatever mess your life is in. And certainly not blaming yourself either. Just get on with life, accept yourself and others will too (if they don't, their loss...)!

At least, this is what I strive to do each day...
